General Sessions
InterOperability Required: The Partnership between Legacy & Digital Rails
Moderator: Raquel Look, Blockchain and Digital Assets Leader, Deloitte & Touche LLP
Simon Letort, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Digital Asset
Jack Pouderoyen, Innovation Director, SWIFT
Stephen Prosperi, Executive Director, Innovation Strategy & Digital Assets, DTCC
Significant change and transformation is the underlying fabric of the capital markets. In the 1960’s, physical securities were used to settle transactions. The solution was impossible to scale, which resulted in the creation of DTC, the introduction of netting and securities portability. For the foreseeable future, the analog and digital world will need to interoperate in order to move the industry forward. Hear from industry experts about their view on how to interoperate today to launch a digital future.
FX Implications of T+1
Moderator: Janet Dawson, Managing Director, Global FX Division – Americas, GFMA
Anthony Arciniaco, Manager of Investment Operations, Pzena Investment Management
Brendan Burke, Senior Vice President, Brown Brothers Harriman
Neeti Kataria, Executive Director, Head of Americas FICC Transformation, JP Morgan Chase
The financial services industry is assessing and instituting changes to settlement processes, including the FX asset class. Foreign investors in U.S. Securities (which are denominated in U.S. Dollars) execute FX trades to fund the purchase or sale in U.S. Dollars from their local currencies. Accelerating U.S. securities settlement to T+1 impacts the related transactions and raises the risk that transaction funding dependent on FX settlement may not occur in time. This panel will address the options being considered by different parties within the transaction lifecycle and the impacts of each.
ESG: A Necessary Driver of Social and Environmental Progress
Moderator: Lisa Benson, Director, Global Infrastructure Data & Buyside Contributions, LSEG
Dr. Stephanie Gripne, Founder & CEO, Impact Finance Center
Francis Janes, Industry Relations Director, Beneficial State Foundation
While free markets have led to extraordinary wealth for some, left unchecked, they have also caused egregious inequities across social, economic, racial, and geographic lines. Business as usual has resulted in extraordinary stress on nature and harmed ecosystems that sustain us. The climate crisis is just one example of this impact, leading important institutions like the World Economic Forum and Business Roundtable to advocate for a rapid shift to Stakeholder Capitalism. Moving away from a shareholder primacy mindset to a business strategy that embraces Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations allows the financial services sector to reduce inefficiencies, lower risk, earn consumer trust, meet evolving regulatory pressures, and build long-term value for all stakeholders. This panel will challenge our audience to adopt a rigorous ESG lens to guide decision-making, support strategic planning, and inform the choice of financial partners.
Putting T+1 to the Test
Moderator: John Abel, Executive Director, DTCC
Yann Galand, Vice President, Change & Transformation Head, BNP Paribas
Ken Judy, Global Head of MS Security Settlements & Head of T+1 Programming, Morgan Stanley
Wondering how the industry is preparing for T+1 end-to-end testing? Please join us for a panel discussion moderated by DTCC’s John Abel as he talks about DTCC’s test plan and speaks with industry peers about their approach to T+1 testing from the perspective of a Broker/Dealer, an Asset Manager/Owner and an Asset Servicer.
Data-Centric Security for Financial Services
Moderator: Tom Dunlap, Founder and Managing Partner, DIACSUS
Amit Kharat, Director Product Management, Seclore
Mark Sutera, Vice President Enterprise Sales, Seclore
Join DIACSUS’ Tom Dunlap and Seclore’s Mark Sutera on an engaging discussion to learn about industry challenges and opportunities with protecting sensitive unstructured data, including types for PII, client confidentiality, and data privacy. Discover their thoughts on mitigating associated risks and gaps, such as knowing exactly what’s shared and where your data is, protecting your data assets wherever they may go, and enabling capable data access controls. The panel will also address pain points seen across the industry for collaborating securely, having good data visibility, reducing incident events and costs, supporting good risk management, and being regulatory conformant.
Critical Data and Decision-Making Challenges
Moderator: Tom Dunlap, Founder and Managing Partner, DIACSUS
Tony Brownlee, President, Chief Revenue Officer, Kingland Systems
Join DIACSUS’ Tom Dunlap and Kingland’s Tony Brownlee as they review the results of a 2023 study assessing the critical data challenges facing the financial services industry. We will share our perspectives on the evolution of data requirements, common demand drivers, industry-wide data points, and a new paradigm for refining data that is emerging. Tom and Tony will share the findings of the study, insights from senior colleagues around the industry, and emerging approaches institutions are taking to address these challenges.
