Although APIs may seem like something new and revolutionary to those in financial services and asset management, the concepts and philosophy behind them have been around for decades – long before companies like Amazon or Google utilized the capabilities to become pioneers in connected ecosystems.

As with any technology that’s primed to usher in change, open APIs encounter challenges. However, those obstacles – namely, infrastructure changes, cybersecurity, and exposure to competitors – are far from insurmountable.
