Krista Scharfenberger is a Vice President at BNY Mellon and Manager of the Communications Management Unit within Global Securities Operations. The Communications Management Unit is made up of Network Communications and the Transmission Support Group. Network Communications operates in a 24/5 environment and is responsible for SWIFT and off-network system wellness and file transmission monitoring, message routing and distribution, position and balance reconciliation and reporting. The Transmission Support Group is responsible for implementing new custody client and investment manager asset trade, cash, and foreign exchange messaging, as well as implementing enhancements to the custody-related systems that process those messages, both received and sent by BNY Mellon, and related STP reporting. Communications Management teams are currently located in six cities and four countries. Krista also serves as a subject matter expert manager for line of business resources allocated to the annual SWIFT Standards release program.
Krista’s 20 year career in financial services began as a licensed Registered Representative at Prudential Preferred Financial Services. She retained her series 6 and 63 licenses while working for Putnam Investments in various transaction processing and internet/website maintenance and support roles.
Krista's exposure to ISO messaging and standards began in 1999, when she joined the Transmission Support Group as a business analyst at what was then Mellon Trust. She has worked consistently in the custody asset trade, cash, and foreign exchange messaging space in various roles since that time. Now, she and her teams support industry standard and best practice compliant messaging across and on behalf of multiple lines of business at BNY Mellon.
Krista has been an active participant in ISITC for over 15 years, participating in working groups since 2000, and served as a Co-Chair of the Settlements Working Group from June 2005 until she joined ISITC’s Board of Directors in 2012.
Krista has a BS in Plant and Soil Science, and an MBA in General Management from the University of Massachusetts.
